Waste Recycling (End Use Register) Bill 2010

Do you ever wonder where exactly does your recycling go?  Well, a new initiative from the Campaign for Real Recycling seeks to establish a simple duty upon local authorities to publish an End Use Register of the final destinations of materials collected locally  - identifying where they get recycled.  With cross-party support, Conservative MP Peter Bottomley has tabled a Bill to try and establish this simple measure.  It would provide a straightforward way of helping the public to understand what happens to their materials and generate public confidence that material was being properly recycled.  Somerset Waste Partnership have set a good example in this regard, and other local authorities are encouraged to follow suit.  There is also an Early Day Motion in Parliament (EDM 1101) in support of the Bill, and readers are encouraged to ask their Members of Parliament to sign this Motion.

The Bill was launched at a reception this week at the House of Commons.  RGR attended in support of the Bill, which we believe to be a positive and simple measure to improve public confidence in recycling.
